Lanka Energy Security Initiative’s (LESI) project portfolio is based on a survey conducted on Global hydrogen strategies. Our intent is to focus on how an Islandic Nation with its geographical attributes could establish an economically viable Green Hydrogen Economy.
Sri Lanka is new to Hydrogen as a fuel being used in the transport sector. Developed world is speedily moving towards establishing their own flavor of hydrogen economies. Sri Lanka being an island nation with an abundance of renewable energy has been geographically sited and sized by nature to portray an ideal destination for a green hydrogen economy to be established. Our project(s) mergers signages of geographical attributes and socio-economic trends in Sri Lanka. It does so without destabilizing the socio-economic structure and the energy sector in its effort towards driving Sri Lanka’s E3 (Energy, Economy and Environmental) aspirations.
Production of Green hydrogen was threatened due to economic unviability in the past. Of late, advancement in technology and price reduction in renewable energy have been the main contributing factors promoting the production of green Hydrogen.
Hydrogen being an energy vector i.e., manmade energy not directly useable needing extraction prior to transporting, and storing in appropriate quantities for later use has its own limitations. A team of likeminded professionals from the energy industry, chemical industry and Information technology industry at Lanka Energy Security Initiative (LESI) have skillfully combined geographic attributes, addressed limitations inherent in hydrogen, optimized renewable energy usage through alignment of technologies, and has addressed socio–economic needs. The net outcome of the study yielded designs of self-contained projects which are economically viable with vertical and horizontal scaling. Techno economic analysis conducted confirmed economic viability and sustained growth.
